“Gitty,” said my teacher, Mrs. Sassoon. “Please come up to the board and solve this fraction problem.”
“I can’t go up to the board. You see, I was riding my bike when this black car came skidding up. Then I fell up the stairs — really! — and hurt my leg. And that’s why I can’t go to the board.”

Nine-year-old Gitty Eisenberg is known as Gabby Gitty because she loves to talk. She has a knack for making her friends laugh, and she’s her mother’s favorite dishwasher. But when her older brother gets sick, life gets complicated.
